The wife of a Ukrainian diplomat attempted to smuggle 141 thousand packs of cigarettes into the European Union
23.02.2024 - 13:13The proposed measures would target products such as sugar, poultry meat, eggs, frozen raspberries, apple juice, sunflower oil and rapeseed oil, according to statements made by Cheslav Sekerski, the Minister of Agriculture of Poland.
Sekerski expressed concerns about the current situation, emphasizing that while Ukraine may require assistance, the existing framework for agricultural imports into the European Union is unsustainable. He noted that Polish and other EU farmers would struggle to compete effectively under the current conditions.
The Polish government intends to implement significant limitations on the entry of sensitive goods from Ukraine, including enhanced border controls. Minister highlighted the legitimate opposition expressed by Polish farmers against the prevailing circumstances in the country’s agriculture sector. He attributed the protests to several factors, including the unjustified demands of the European Commission’s “green” agenda, the influx of Ukrainian agri-food products saturating the Polish market and the declining profitability of agricultural production in Poland.
