16.04.2026 - 08:01Poland does not intend to allow Ukraine’s accelerated admission to the European Union.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on RMF FM radio.
According to him, there is an idea within the European Commission of speeding up Ukraine’s European integration. That will not happen, Sikorski assured.
Poland insists that Ukraine must fulfill all the conditions required for accession, just as Warsaw itself did, among others, the minister said.
The day before, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that Viktor Orbán’s defeat in Hungary’s prime ministerial election would give “new momentum” to Ukraine’s EU membership.
According to her, Orbán’s defeat and Péter Magyar’s victory were “a great victory for Europe.” This will “positively affect the accession process,” the commissioner stressed. Kos also said that Orbán’s defeat would make it possible to grant Ukraine a €90 billion loan.
