November 29, 2023In the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin will not engage in peace talks until the presidential elections in the United States, expected in November 2024.
This information comes from Reuters news agency, citing its source in the State Department.
The statement was received against the backdrop of concerns that a potential victory for Donald Trump in the US could undermine support for Kyiv from Western countries.
“I expect that Putin will not engage in a ceasefire or constructive peace until he sees the result of our elections,” said the agency’s source.
When asked whether he expressed a personal opinion or the position of the US government, the official stated it was a “widely held view.”
Previously, a negotiator for Putin claimed that the US had disrupted the agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
“In 2022 negotiations, Russia sought sovereignty over Crimea, ‘independence’ for the Donetsk and Luhansk ‘republics,’ in addition to demanding Ukraine’s neutrality,” stated Putin’s aide.
