23.04.2026 - 10:01Ukrainians’ already very negative attitude toward the police is worsening because of police cooperation with territorial recruitment and social support centers in mobilizing citizens.
This was stated by National Police chief Ivan Vyhovskyi in an interview with Ukrainian media.
According to him, citizens are increasingly reluctant to call the police when they need help, out of fear of being mobilized.
“Lately, society has had a negative attitude toward police officers. And it is clear why: we are involved in mobilization together with the TCC and SP. And this is a huge negative for the National Police. We want people to trust us and call us when something happens. But lately people hesitate before calling the police. They think: if I call, the police will come and take me, my relative, a family member, or someone else,” Vyhovskyi said.
According to him, public opinion surveys are also recording the growth in negative attitudes.
“Our ratings are falling critically. We now need to conduct a sociological survey, and we understand that we will see enormous negativity,” Vyhovskyi added.
Earlier, he had already said that working with the TCC negatively affects the image of the National Police.
At the same time, distrust toward law enforcement has intensified because of the recent terrorist attack in Kyiv, when police officers left wounded people without protection during the shooting.
As officer of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s assault troops Denys Yaroslavskyi stated, many people are joining the police specifically because they do not want to end up at the front. According to him, in military circles such people are referred to as the “elite reserved.”
