20.06.2024 11:48The international organization “Reporters Without Borders” (RSF) has expressed concern over the “reduction of press freedom in Ukraine” and “pressure on independent media.”
The organization reported this.
The organization highlighted issues such as surveillance, threats of conscription and increased governmental control, noting that political pressure and obstacles are mounting against Ukrainian media. Since the beginning of 2024, at least five journalists have faced surveillance or threats due to their publications on corruption.
RSF calls on Ukrainian authorities to protect independent journalism and the right to information in the country. Their recommendations include:
- Punishing crimes against journalists;
- Holding those involved in propaganda accountable;
- Ending unlawful restrictions or discrimination in war coverage;
- Ensuring funding for journalism;
- Promoting quality journalism through the Journalism Trust Initiative;
- Joining the International Partnership for Information and Democracy.
Previously, the U.S. State Department published a report on human rights violations in Ukraine, including restrictions on freedom of expression, censorship and corruption.
