Zelensky and “conceptual legitimacy”: what the conflict with Trump means for Ukraine internally
11.10.2026 12:01A number of American Republicans and representatives of the conservative camp are accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of deliberately continuing strikes on Russian oil refineries in order to harm Republicans ahead of the U.S. congressional elections on November 3.
This was reported by Ostap Yarysh, a Ukrainian journalist working in the United States, on his Facebook page.
According to Yarysh, a narrative is spreading actively among supporters of the MAGA movement that the strikes on Russian refineries are driving up fuel prices in the U.S., thereby complicating the position of Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.
Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy addressed the topic directly:
“Ungrateful Zelensky keeps bombing oil refineries and complicating the president’s position ahead of the midterm congressional elections,” she said.
Conservative blogger Jack Posobiec, who has an audience of millions, went further and called for concrete measures:
“Zelensky is trying to hurt Trump ahead of the midterm elections. Immediately stop providing Ukraine with intelligence and allocating it any funding,” he wrote.
Republican Senator Mike Lee also joined the criticism, stating: “Zelensky is working overtime to help Democrats in November.”
Yarysh believes that such statements serve a specific purpose — to shift responsibility for rising fuel prices onto Ukraine. The journalist warns that the wave of accusations directed at Kyiv will continue: “Three weeks remain until election day. And we should be prepared to hear many more new accusations against Ukraine in those three weeks.”
Earlier, American billionaire Elon Musk backed Trump in his criticism of Zelensky over the strikes on Russian oil refineries.
