The new command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has initiated large-scale inspections in the army
February 13, 2024Ahead of the Senate vote on aid to Ukraine, “Republicans sharply divided.” This concerns the allocation of nearly $100 billion for military assistance to allies, including $60 billion for Ukraine. The bill does not address the issue of borders, writes the New York Times.
In a recent procedural vote, 17 Republicans supported the bill despite objections from the majority of their party. Opponents of the bill aim to delay its passage in the Senate, while supporters plan to bring it to a vote by Wednesday. Minority senators face pressure from former President Trump and his allies.
Despite this pressure, the coalition of Republicans supporting the aid bill remains intact. Some senators opposing the aid cite unresolved internal issues like the border and the belief that Putin will not lose, arguing that continuing the conflict will only harm Ukraine. Additionally, the Speaker of the House has warned against bringing the bill to a vote, casting doubt on its approval even if passed by the Senate.
