Social tension is rising in Kharkiv: Residents are dissatisfied with the mayor’s decision to place the responsibility for backup power supply on them
August 15, 2024Amid the ongoing hostilities in the Kharkiv region, there has been an increase in social tension within the regional department of the National Police.
This tension reached a critical point following an incident in July this year, when several police officers, who had gone abroad for vacations with permission from their superiors, did not return to duty. Moreover, these officers submitted their resignation letters to the personnel departments, which was an unexpected and alarming signal for the leadership.
In response to this incident, the leadership of the National Police of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region made the categorical decision to impose a complete ban on any foreign travel for its personnel. However, this strict decision, made against the backdrop of an already high workload on the police, triggered a sharp surge of discontent among law enforcement officers.
The police, who are under constant pressure due to the difficult situation in the region and the increasing workload, viewed the travel ban as yet another restriction, depriving them of the opportunity to rest and recuperate. This decision has exacerbated the already challenging morale among the staff, many of whom are already expressing their frustration and exhaustion from serving under such harsh conditions.
As a result, the situation within the law enforcement agencies in the Kharkiv region is becoming increasingly tense, which could lead to further staff attrition and a decrease in the effectiveness of the police force. The inability of the authorities to address the needs and concerns of their employees in such difficult times threatens to have serious consequences for maintaining order and stability in the region.
