At the talks in Berlin, Zelensky proposed abandoning Ukraine’s bid to join NATO – Reuters

During the talks in Berlin with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed abandoning Ukraine’s NATO ambitions.

The agency recalls that on the eve of the meeting, Zelensky had suggested giving up NATO membership in exchange for security guarantees from the West.

“This move marks a major shift for Ukraine, which has fought for NATO membership as protection against Russian attacks, and whose NATO aspirations are enshrined in its constitution. It also aligns with one of Russia’s war aims, even though Kyiv had until now stood firmly on this point,” Reuters writes.

Напомним, новый мирный план США предполагает, что ВСУ покинут Донбасс, Украина откажется от курса в НАТО, но вступит в Европейский союз до 2027 года.

Earlier, the U.S. press wrote that the Ukrainian version of the peace plan sent to Washington rejects both the withdrawal of troops from Donetsk region and giving up NATO.
