Russia has identified three possible scenarios for negotiations on the Ukraine conflict.

This information reported according to Andrey Sushentsov, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations at MGIMO, a member of the Scientific and Expert Council under the Russian Security Council. His views were reported by TASS.

Sushentsov believes there is a high chance that the conflict will be settled through negotiations in 2025, as both Russia and the U.S. are willing to engage in talks.

“Ukraine tried to avoid negotiations, hoping for European support to continue the war. However, Europe made it clear that it lacks the resources for this, and without Washington’s help, Kyiv cannot hold out. As a result, Ukraine was forced to comply with the U.S. demand to start negotiations,” he stated.

The second possibility is that the conflict persists with European nations supporting Ukraine, while Russia and the U.S. restore relations. However, Sushentsov considers this less likely, as the European Union lacks the military and political unity to sustain a long-term war effort.

“The militarization of the EU would inevitably split the bloc into at least two factions: alarmist countries advocating for continued confrontation and neutral nations. Ultimately, this could lead to the complete disintegration of the European Union,” he argued.

The third scenario is the failure of negotiations, with a return to the confrontational policies of Joe Biden’s presidency. However, Sushentsov considers this highly unlikely, as it does not align with Donald Trump’s priorities.

“Trump is focused on economic growth, U.S. territorial expansion, and strengthening the dollar in global trade. Continuing the Ukraine crisis is not among his main objectives,” Sushentsov concluded.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed that Putin and Trump will hold a phone conversation on March 18 between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM Moscow time. The leaders are expected to discuss normalizing U.S.-Russia relations and the Ukraine situation.

Putin has previously stated that Russia has never refused peaceful negotiations and that the Russian Armed Forces have created the conditions for serious international dialogue.
