27.06.2025 - 08:45Russia has captured the second of four known lithium deposits in Ukraine — the one located in Shevchenko, Donetsk Oblast, which is considered the most promising.
This was reported by Le Figaro.
Russia claims full control of the village, while the Deep State map currently confirms only the capture of a significant portion. However, the deposit itself, discovered back in 1982 during the Soviet era and spanning 40 hectares, has already been under Russian control for several days, as it is located on the eastern outskirts of the settlement.
According to researchers from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the total lithium reserves in Ukraine amount to 500,000 tons—more than those of Portugal, which currently holds the largest lithium deposits in Europe.
However, none of Ukraine’s four known lithium deposits are currently being developed. Two of them—Polokhivskeand Dobra—are located in Kirovohrad Oblast, while two—Shevchenko and Kruta Balka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast—are now under Russian control.
The Shevchenko deposit was seen as the most promising because it contains “highly mineralized spodumene,” from which lithium is easier to extract than from petalite.
Previously, media reported that Ukraine had started preparations for a tender to develop the Dobra lithium deposit, the largest in the country, located in Kirovohrad Oblast.
