NATO, sanctions, Russian language: Reuters sources in the Kremlin list conditions for ending the war
28.05.2025 13:16Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that a new round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia will be announced in the near future.
He made this announcement during the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues.
The minister also outlined what Moscow will demand at the expected meeting. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the Russian delegation at the upcoming negotiations will insist on the repeal by Kyiv of all “discriminatory laws.” He likely means laws concerning the status of the state language and Russian language, as well as the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
In addition, one of the key demands will be for Ukraine to adopt a neutral and non-nuclear status.
It’s worth noting that just recently, Ukraine’s Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Sybiha, stated that Ukraine seeks to hold the next round of negotiations with Russia in the delegation format, similar to the Istanbul talks.
Earlier, the Office of the President of Ukraine revealed the demands Russia had made to the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations in Istanbul. Among Russia’s demands were the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions; refusal of military alliances, military industry, and Western arms supplies.
