“Ukraine’s NATO membership is currently out of reach,” – deputy Head of Zelensky’s Office says
December 10, 2024Russian forces have breached the border of the Sumy region near the village of Oleksandriya. The breakthrough reportedly came from the Kursk bridgehead of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF).
This is evidenced by a map published by the Ukrainian military resource Deep State.
The spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Service, Andriy Demchenko, did not deny that the Russians had captured this area but noted that the terrain there is swampy. Because of the landscape, it was not held by Ukrainian forces, and according to him, the Russians would not be able to advance further from this position.
Additionally, according to the Deep State map, Russian troops have made progress near the village of Plekhovo in the Kursk region, with the UAF controlling a smaller portion of it.
Russian Telegram channels have claimed that the village is now completely under Russian control.
Shortly after the reports of the breach, the Sumy Regional Military Administration (RMA) dismissed them as fake news.
“Reports of a border crossing spreading in media resources are hostile disinformation and do not correspond to reality. So far, there is no information from the military about any changes in the situation on the border; the situation remains under control,” stated Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the Sumy RMA.
Earlier, Western media reported that Vladimir Putin had allegedly ordered the return of the Kursk region to Russian control before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
