“Ukraine’s NATO membership is currently out of reach,” – deputy Head of Zelensky’s Office says

Ukraine’s membership in NATO is currently “beyond Kyiv’s reach.”

This was stated by Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of President Zelensky.

According to him, Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance is “not a matter of the near future” but rather a long-term prospect. He added that Ukraine could adopt the model of NATO accession used by Sweden and Finland. However, Zhovkva noted that these countries joined the Alliance only after a certain period, once all necessary procedures were completed.

“This is one of the mechanisms for implementing guarantees of NATO membership. If such a mechanism does not exist, we will seek bilateral security agreements,” he concluded.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the conflict with Russia could only be resolved by forcing peace from a position of strength. He also reiterated his call for Ukraine to be invited to join NATO.
