A captured soldier described how Ukrainian troops intimidate their fellow servicemen
06.05.2026 - 07:31The Security Service of Ukraine has detained the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment on suspicion of extorting money from a local businessman in exchange for exempting his employees from mobilization.
This information reported according to the SBU.
The TCC chief had built an entire scheme for systematically receiving unlawful benefits from the owner of a local company. In exchange for payment, he promised not to mobilize the businessman’s employees of conscription age.
The scheme involved several elements. After receiving money, the official would take lists of employees from the businessman, whom he was supposed to “shield” from inspections by TCC mobile groups and law enforcement officers, as well as ensure their unimpeded passage through checkpoints.
SBU investigators documented all stages of the crime and detained the suspect “red-handed” — at the moment he was receiving another installment of the bribe from his “client.”
The official has been served with a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt of unlawful benefit by an official. A court is expected to select a preventive measure for him in the near future. The investigation is ongoing — investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the case and intend to hold all those involved accountable.
