November 29, 2024The former Member of Parliament and advisor to the former Deputy Minister of Defense have been informed of suspicion in a fraud case involving the procurement of military uniforms.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, in 2022, they facilitated the signing of an agreement for the supply of more than one million sets of clothing for Ukrainian soldiers at inflated prices, embezzling over $10 million in the process.
The scheme was organized by a foreigner who ordered the uniforms from Turkey. The total value of the contract was $25.6 million.
“The more than $10 million obtained from the price difference was planned to be divided among all participants in the criminal scheme, including officials from the defense ministry,” the statement said.
Earlier, the media reported that the Ministry of Defense purchased jackets for the Ukrainian Armed Forces at three times the inflated price.
The Ministry of Defense is also investigating the supply of defective 120mm mines to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Recently, soldiers from different sections of the front told journalists that they were given munitions manufactured by Ukroboronprom that failed to detonate after firing, got stuck in the mortar barrel, or simply fell right next to it.
