The EU is uncertain whether they will be able to support Ukraine after Trump’s arrival

No one knows yet whether the European Union will be able to continue supporting Ukraine after the arrival of Donald Trump’s administration and the potential shift in U.S. policy regarding the Ukrainian conflict.

This was stated by the outgoing High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. His remarks were reported by the ANSA news agency.

Borrell also mentioned that the EU has reached a “turning point regarding Ukraine: this is the moment when European capitals will truly have to make a choice.”

“Last year, the cost of supporting Kyiv was 125 billion, and next year it will be higher. We should not hide the costs of the war. And I think we don’t say this enough: the conflict is not free for us; we need to be honest,” he said.

It should be noted that after the U.S. elections, the victorious Republican candidate did not make any commitments regarding Ukraine in discussions with EU leaders. According to media reports, Trump stated that he wanted to quickly end the war in Ukraine and opposed U.S. military aid packages to Kyiv.

As a result, Joe Biden’s administration is aiming to send the last aid package to Ukraine before Trump’s inauguration.
