The Legal Department of the Rada criticized the draft law on banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
21.05.2024 21:24German Chancellor Olaf Scholz presents himself as a “peace-loving chancellor” at election campaign events.
This was reported by the tabloid Bild.
At a campaign event in Karlsruhe, Scholz opposed the recently proposed plan by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, which involved using NATO’s air defense systems stationed on the eastern border to protect Western Ukraine.
According to Scholz, “no decision should be made with foaming at the mouth.” He advocates for “prudence and reasonableness” in defining the limits of assistance to Ukraine. “No talk of a ‘no-fly zone,’ no thought that NATO would shoot down Russian fighters over Ukrainian airspace and thus directly intervene in the Ukrainian war,” the newspaper reports of the chancellor’s speech.
Scholz dismissed the recent plans by Rasmussen and other signatories to expedite Ukraine’s membership in NATO as “war-mongering chatter,” according to Bild. He recalled that similar plans were voiced at the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, where there were calls to shoot down all Russian planes over Ukraine, but all those plans were rejected. “There is no sense in saying: we will do something like that — but maybe only 70 or 100 kilometers,” Scholz is quoted as saying by the publication.
