August 21, 2024German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that the Ukrainian military offensive in Russia’s Kursk region will be “limited in scope and possibly in duration.”
Scholz made this statement on Wednesday during a press conference in Chișinău following talks with Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
Scholz also mentioned that Ukraine did not consult with Germany before launching the offensive on Russian territory. According to the chancellor, this decision “was dictated by the situation at hand.”
The German chancellor reiterated that Germany remains one of the main suppliers of military aid to Ukraine. He emphasized that despite the recent decision by the German government not to allocate additional funds to Kyiv, which was dictated by German budgetary laws, this does not imply a freeze on aid.
He clarified that some of the assistance will be provided through international programs, such as a €50 billion loan under the framework of the “Group of Seven” (G7).
Earlier, Politico reported that Kyiv’s recent offensive in Russia’s Kursk region had received the green light from its allies.
