August 21, 2024In Ukraine, gasoline prices are expected to rise by 10 hryvnias (€0.22), diesel by 11 hryvnias (€0.24), and liquefied gas by 600 hryvnias (€13.09) per cylinder after a new law increasing excise taxes comes into effect.
This was reported by Member of Parliament Nina Yuzhanina.
Yuzhanina noted that although the increase will be implemented in four stages, it will still negatively impact consumers.
To recall, the Verkhovna Rada supported bill 11256-2, which raises the excise tax on fuel starting September 1. An amendment (No. 267) regarding gas was also supported.
Earlier, it was reported that the parliamentary tax committee endorsed a government bill to increase excise taxes on cigarettes and fuel by 2028 to the level of the European Union, linking these taxes to the euro instead of the hryvnia.
Prior to this, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a bill to raise excise taxes on fuel and alcohol starting July 1. The bill is titled “On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine Regarding the Approximation of Ukrainian Legislation to European Union Legislation in Terms of Excise Duty.”
