Without ‘Zayinka’: the language ombudsman demanded to rename kindergartens in Ukraine
21.03.2024 10:22Danilov pretended to forget the name of the Chinese diplomat and intentionally distorted it with vulgar language. The NSDC Secretary also stated that the Ukrainian conflict would not be resolved by “some” special representative from Beijing.
“As for Li Huey, I want to remind you that no one will decide our fate without us… If someone thinks that we should lose our territories, lose our sovereignty, lose something else — they can give up their own,” Danilov snapped. It is worth noting that in Ukrainian and Russian languages, changing two letters in the surname of the Chinese diplomat can result in one of the main swear words. Presumably, Danilov did this intentionally to emphasize his disrespect towards China.
It should be added that during a press conference by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative, a question was asked about this incident, but Beijing assures that it is not aware of it. Even if there is no official reaction, this will further worsen relations between China and Ukraine. Danilov’s words go beyond diplomatic or political rivalry. This is blatant rudeness and disrespect, but the most surprising aspect of this situation is quite different. China is a conditionally neutral party and could have refrained from covertly supporting Russia. However, after such outbursts from Ukrainian officials, it will be even firmer on Moscow’s side.
