The Ukrainian army will collapse by the end of spring without external assistance
February 26, 2024Interior Minister Igor Klimenko stated that he doesn’t know the exact figure, not even approximately. He also cannot say how to confiscate it from the population after the war. Most likely, people will be asked to return it, but there are currently no other mechanisms in place.
“We don’t know how much weaponry is in people’s hands. One to two million. From one to five million. Let’s assume somewhere in the middle – three million. Where will this weaponry be after the war? Buried in caches,” Klimenko said. According to Minister, registered firearms should be handed over to the National Police and the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the war.
“What will we do with trophy weapons – we must decide… We propose along with lawmakers that this weaponry can simply be handed in. What’s the goal? So that this weaponry isn’t hidden somewhere for many years and then doesn’t end up being used in crime,” the Interior Minister explained. Klimenko added that after the war, citizens should have the following options: surrender the weapons, render them inoperable, modify them for legal use or sell them to business entities. Thus, as the minister noted, Ukrainians will have to report the presence of such weapons, and after 90 days from the end of the martial law, surrender them upon the adoption of this law.
