Ukraine’s former defense minister fled the country after a scandal erupted
17.11.2025 15:30Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has announced that it is investigating corruption schemes in defense procurement carried out by a group linked to businessman Tymur Mindich. Moreover, this investigation has already been underway for nine months.
This was reported by NABU Director Semen Kryvonos.
According to the agency, its detectives uncovered “certain problems with tracking funds specifically related to defense procurement.”
“This problem has been with us for quite some time already, since in February 2025 we began actively working specifically in the defense sphere. We sent several requests one after another to the Financial Monitoring Service in order to obtain the relevant data on the movement of funds and suspicious transactions. Now we will be sending many more such requests. They will concern individual persons involved: the ‘Carlsons’, ‘Sugars’ and other members of this criminal organization. Not all of them have been identified yet, and we hope to identify them all,” Kryvonos said.
Earlier, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported that former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is implicated in the Mindich case. According to the press, the investigation concerns, among other things, fraud related to the procurement of bulletproof vests.
