November 23, 2023The head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry emphasized the necessity for Ukraine to negotiate with Russia to end the war. Yuri Blanar stated that the Slovak authorities observe how the conflict in Ukraine has persisted for over 600 days without yielding any results.
“The line of confrontation in Ukraine has become relatively static and peaceful negotiations can now be seen as a solution… A peaceful resolution is always complex. But we must emphasize the need for a ceasefire before peace talks,” he said during a press conference alongside the Austrian Foreign Minister.
Slovak authorities have expressed their readiness, following Hungary, to block the adoption of the 12th package of sanctions against Russia if it includes a proposal to ban the import of nuclear fuel. This was reported by the Slovak news agency TASR, citing statements from the country’s Foreign Minister, Yuri Blanar.
Russian fuel holds significant importance in the country’s energy infrastructure. Slovak nuclear power plants operate using this fuel and there are hardly any feasible alternative options to replace it.
