02.03.2025 - 12:50Slovakia will not support Ukraine financially or militarily and will block European Union summit decisions on Ukraine unless the necessity of a ceasefire is explicitly mentioned.
This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
“If the summit does not acknowledge that there are perspectives beyond continuing the war, the European Council may fail to reach an agreement on the Ukrainian issue on Thursday,” Fico wrote.
He also emphasized the need to resume gas transit through Ukraine to Slovakia.
“Slovakia proposes that the conclusions of the EU summit (Thursday, March 6, 2025) include, among other things, the necessity of an immediate ceasefire—regardless of when a final peace agreement is reached. President Zelensky and most EU member states reject this. Slovakia demands that the summit’s conclusions clearly state the need to reopen gas transit through Ukraine to Slovakia and Western Europe,” he added.
Earlier, Slovak officials indicated their desire to reclaim the funds spent on assisting Ukraine.
