In the West, they claimed Ukraine will capitulate soon
02.01.2026 - 05:31Slovakia’s government believes that Ukraine will never become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák said this in an interview with the local news agency TASR.
“Ukraine will never be in NATO, and joining the EU will also be difficult for it to achieve,” the minister said.
He also criticized the role of the so-called “coalition of the willing” formed by European countries.
“Has it (the coalition — ed.) sent any soldier? No, it hasn’t. Of course not,” Kaliňák noted.
The Slovak defense minister added that “Ukraine had a chance to end the war back in 2022,” and emphasized that creating a common European army could be a logical step only if countries were not members of NATO.
Kaliňák also said that collective defense among EU countries should remain under the Alliance’s leadership rather than the European Union’s. In his view, two commands at the same time cannot ensure effectiveness and security.
“Either we are in NATO, and then we don’t need this (a pan-European army), or we are in Europe,” the Slovak minister said.
Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that financing Ukraine with Russian assets would prolong the war by another two years.
