28.11.2024 - 22:31South Korea has refused to supply weapons to Ukraine, even for money.
This was reported by the local television channel SBS.
A delegation led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov traveled to Seoul to meet with the president. They expressed their desire to purchase Korean weapons, including medium-range “Cheongung” surface-to-air missiles, counter-artillery radars, and 155mm ammunition.
Seoul stated that selling weapons to a conflict zone violates its legislation, and that it does not have enough production capacity or reserves to supply all interested parties until 2030.
However, SBS reports that the refusal may be related to the election of Donald Trump, who promises to end the war, making it “difficult to help Ukraine without aligning with the elected U.S. president.”
Umerov himself, following the visit, stated that he informed Seoul about the participation of North Korean troops in the war on the side of Russia.
“We believe that our arguments about the need to increase cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea will lead to a tangible strengthening of the security of our nations and regions,” the Ukrainian minister wrote.
It should be noted that earlier, the President of South Korea had mentioned the possibility of supplying weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces if North Korean military forces were deployed to fight in Ukraine.
