“Zelensky refused to make concessions for the sake of peace,” – former NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg
30.09.2025 08:30The Swedish government has denied reports that it plans to supply Ukraine with domestically produced JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, as claimed the day before by Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Ivan Havryliuk.
The denial came from Johan Hjelmstrand, spokesperson for the Swedish Ministry of Defense.
“Sweden is not currently planning to supply Ukraine with JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets; the matter is still under review. Work is still ongoing, and we have no new information on this issue,” the spokesperson said.
The SAAB JAS 39 Gripen is a fourth-generation multirole fighter aircraft that has been in service with the Swedish Air Force since 1997. The abbreviation JAS stands for Jakt (fighter), Attack (attack aircraft), and Spaning (reconnaissance).
Havryliuk made his claim about Swedish supplies in an interview with Western media, saying that the military aid package also included U.S. F-16s and French Mirages.
Last spring, Sweden announced it would refrain from transferring Gripen jets to Ukraine in favor of U.S. F-16 deliveries. At the time, Sweden’s defense minister said other countries had urged Stockholm to wait regarding the Gripen system.
