September 5, 2024Discussions are underway between Estonia and Ukraine regarding the return of conscription-age Ukrainian men from abroad.
This was stated by Estonia’s Minister of Defense, Hanno Pevkur, in an interview with Ukrainian media.
The minister confirmed that Tallinn and Kyiv are discussing the return of conscription-age Ukrainian men from abroad but noted that Ukraine is focusing on voluntary return.
“We are cooperating with the Ukrainian government as much as possible. But for now, as I understand, the Ukrainian government is focused on offering these people the opportunity to return voluntarily. We understand that this is a very complex task, but let’s see how things develop and how the Ukrainian government will address mobilization issues,” Pevkur said.
Earlier, Estonian authorities claimed that Ukraine had not requested the government to hand over its conscription-age citizens.
Meanwhile, the German opposition expressed support for Ukraine’s desire to mobilize Ukrainians abroad, advocating for the cessation of financial aid to conscription-age Ukrainians and denying them asylum.
