The Armed Forces of Ukraine were not prepared: British intelligence warned of the offensive in the Kharkiv region

British military intelligence had warned of Russian troop advances in the Kharkiv region, however, the Ukrainian Armed Forces “were not prepared.”

According to the source, “a warning was passed from British military intelligence to the leadership of Ukraine.”

“So when at 5 a.m. last Friday somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 Russian troops crossed the border at two key points, it might have been expected that the attack would be quickly repelled. In reality, Ukraine’s defensive lines were thin or nonexistent. In Volchansk, less than 40 miles northwest of Kharkiv, there were simply no first lines of fortifications and mines,” writes The Guardian.

“The fact that Russian forces were able to advance about 4 miles in several points within five days raises serious questions about Kyiv’s ability to defend itself,” said Dan Sabbagh, the defense and security editor, in an analytical article.
