August 30, 2024In Ukraine, a scandal has erupted within the newly formed Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Unit. Roman Gladky was appointed as the Chief of Staff for the unit’s command, as announced by Vitaliy Medvedev, the head of communications for this branch of the military.
This appointment took place several weeks ago, but it only became public knowledge today through a post by MP Maryana Bezuhla. According to Bezuhla, Gladky “not only lacks any experience with drones but is also suspected of treason, espionage, and corruption. Additionally, his wife holds a Russian passport, and his daughter has competed in events representing Russia.”
Bezuhla claims that the appointment was made by Oleksandr Syrskyi, who assigned Gladky to the position as a “spy” or informant, despite protests from Vadym Sukharevskyi (the commander of the Unmanned Systems Unit) and his team.
The military-focused public page “Deep State” has also criticized the appointment.
“Is there really no suitable candidate in the entire Ukrainian army to serve as Chief of Staff for the Unmanned Systems Unit, other than someone who has never had anything to do with drones?” the page questioned.
It confirmed that Sukharevskyi, who has the authority to fill this position, opposed Gladky’s appointment, leading to current issues within the operations of the Unmanned Systems Unit.
