The Kremlin has said it will not support the proposal for a Christmas ceasefire
16.12.2025 12:31A corruption scandal in Ukraine and strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure may force President Volodymyr Zelensky to sign the peace plan proposed by Washington.
This was reported by The Washington Post, citing the opinion of a high-ranking European diplomat.
According to him, “this internal vulnerability (the corruption scandal involving Yermak’s resignation — Ed.), along with the painful Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure — which are leaving Kyiv and other cities in darkness and cold for increasingly long periods — may make Zelensky more willing to strike a deal.”
“I truly believe that they (Kyiv — Ed.) have never been as serious as they are now. And for some reason it seems that this is connected with the entire corruption scandal and all the internal turmoil,” the diplomat said.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the corruption scandal in Ukraine “does not help at all” in negotiations to end the war.
