A Ukrainian official spoke about the EU’s attempts to obstruct Trump’s peace plan
16.12.2025 13:31Russia will not support the proposal by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for a Christmas truce.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated this to Russian media.
According to him, Russia wants a “deal,” not temporary ceasefires.
“Right now the question is whether we are moving toward what President Trump calls a deal or not. Our position is well known, it is consistent, it is transparent, and it is clear to the Americans. And overall it is clear to the Ukrainians as well. If the Ukrainians have, and are beginning to show, a desire to replace moving toward a deal with short-term, nonviable solutions, we are hardly ready to participate in that. Therefore, we want peace. We do not want a truce that would, so to speak, give Ukraine a breather and allow it to prepare for continuing the war,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
He also noted that Russia will not pay attention to statements published by EU leaders following negotiations in Berlin.
“So far we have only seen newspaper reports; we will not react to newspaper articles. We have not yet seen any texts. When we see them, then we will analyze them,” Peskov said.
He added that Russia wants to stop the war, achieve its goals, protect its interests, and guarantee peace in Europe for the future.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that in the coming days the United States will hold negotiations with Russia regarding the agreements reached with Ukraine.
