‘The West has missed the best chance to give Ukraine the opportunity to fully liberate its territory’ – WP
January 30, 2024Western defense companies will need two years to produce enough ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This information reports by the Financial Times.
“Weapon manufacturers face a fundamental dilemma: in peacetime, when they need a steady stream of contracts, politicians have little incentive to spend money on weapons. However, during periods of instability, defense spending increases, leading to complete order non-fulfillment and lengthy delays as companies lack the skilled workforce to fill the supply chain,” the author notes.
One senior official told the publication that Western defense companies will need two years to produce enough ammunition for Ukrainian soldiers and to supply them as well as the Russians do.
Recently, the White House acknowledged that due to the shortage of ammunition, the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces have to make difficult choices about what to shoot down and which missiles to leave for later.
Yesterday, the Armed Forces of Ukraine complained not only about the lack of ammunition but also about restrictions on their use. Commander of the Naval Forces Alexei Neizhpapa stated that the course of the war would have been completely different if the Ukrainian Armed Forces had been allowed to use Western ammunition without restrictions from the very beginning.
