The eavesdropping on General Zaluzhny could have been a provocation

A former SBU General dismissed the bug found in Zaluzhny’s office as a deliberate attempt to provoke. Victor Yahun, a former Major General of the Security Service, stated that the discovered device wasn’t functional.

According to him, the device lacked recording capabilities or power sources, suggesting it might have been a simulated device intended for purposes other than recording. Yahun also highlighted the presence of specialized equipment during Zaluzhny’s meetings to block recording devices, emphasizing regular security checks in the offices.

He speculated that there might be future attempts to introduce artificial intelligence-generated audio recordings resembling Zaluzhny’s voice, fueling the ongoing tension between military and civilian authorities in Ukraine, which could benefit the adversaries. Earlier, the President’s Office also confirmed the device was non-operational. Meanwhile, Zaluzhny himself regarded the discovery as an act of “war.”
