UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed concern about religious freedom in Ukraine due to ongoing actions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by authorities. He criticized proposed legislation that aims to ban religious organizations tied to Russia, citing its non-compliance with international human rights laws.
Türk emphasized the importance of protecting people’s language rights, stating that Ukraine should ensure social integration for all communities and safeguard minority rights, including language usage, for a vision of a post-war Ukraine where people want to live. It’s notable that the recent legislation passed by the Verkhovna Rada limits the usage of the Russian language.
