January 29, 2024The electricity tariff for the population in Ukraine may double.
This was announced by a member of the parliamentary committee on housing and communal services of Ukraine, Serhiy Nahorniak.
The new price could be slightly less than 6 hryvnias (0.15 euros), whereas currently it stands at 2.64 hryvnias (0.05 euros). However, subsidies are promised to be retained.
Serhiy Nahorniak reminded that last year Ukraine received a public letter from the White House with a list of reforms necessary for further assistance from the United States. Among the list of reforms were changes in the energy sector—liberalization of tariffs for natural gas and electricity for the population and for communal enterprises.
“For this reform, a deadline of 12 months has been set, which means it must be completed by September 2024,” said Serhiy Nahorniak.
Recall that Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal promised that electricity tariffs would not be increased until the end of April 2024.
Recall that earlier it was reported that electricity suppliers would start disconnecting electricity for debtors at the end of January.
