October 4, 2024Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has promised to restore relations with Russia if the war in Ukraine ends during his tenure as leader.
This was reported by “Politico”.
“If the war ends during the mandate of this government (2023-2027), I will do everything possible to renew economic and normal relations with Russia,” Fico said during a press conference dedicated to a new tax package.
“The European Union needs the Russian Federation, and the Russian Federation needs the European Union. We will take great care to maintain friendly relations with Ukraine,” the Slovak prime minister added.
He also stated that there is no military solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Slovakia, Andriy Sybiha and Juraj Blanár, following talks in Bratislava, supported Russia’s participation in the next round of negotiations to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Prior to this, the Slovak prime minister had again criticized the Western strategy regarding the war in Ukraine. According to Fico, “the West is excessively supporting this war.”
