06.03.2026 - 13:20The European Commission condemned threats made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which Zelensky voiced yesterday at a meeting with members of the Ukrainian government.
The statement was made during a briefing in Brussels by European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill.
According to him, Brussels considers such wording toward EU member states unacceptable.
“The European Commission states very clearly that this type of statement is unacceptable. There must be no threats directed at EU member states. And I repeat that we are holding active discussions with all sides on this issue,” Gill said.
As a reminder, Zelensky threatened to pass Orbán’s address to members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces so that they could “talk to him in their own language” if the Hungarian prime minister does not unblock an EU €90 billion loan for Kyiv. Orbán, in turn, is blocking the aid because Ukraine has not restarted the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Hungary receives Russian oil.
Yesterday, even Hungary’s opposition condemned Zelensky’s threat.
In addition, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said this “goes beyond all limits” and that Budapest will stay out of “Zelensky’s war.”
