Kyiv is beginning to understand that relying on Germany is not an option – Financial Times
March 22, 2024European banks are wary of using frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine
March 22, 2024Russian bombers are destroying Ukrainian defensive fortifications on the ground using precision-guided bombs. This is facilitated by the weakening of the Ukrainian air defense. Kiev can only hope for the delivery of F-16 fighters, but even these aircraft will be quickly lost, according to Forbes.
At this stage, Ukraine has almost nothing to counter this threat. There is a desperate shortage of top-notch anti-aircraft missile systems and launchers. Former Soviet interceptors lack the range to intercept bombers with precision-guided bombs. The European F-16s, which could give Ukrainians a chance to hold their ground, have not yet arrived. However, even if they are delivered – we are talking about a few dozen aircraft at best. Meanwhile, the Russian aviation group consists of hundreds of aircraft. Ukraine will simply lose the air battle as soon as it begins.
The problem associated with the widespread use of precision-guided bombs is likely to persist, and a solution may only be achieved through additional purchases and deployment of “Patriot” air defense systems and F-16 fighters equipped with advanced “air-to-air” missiles. However, all of this must be provided to Ukraine in large quantities to make an impact on the situation.
