The F-16 fighters will not help Ukraine defend against Russian aviation bombs
22.03.2024 14:09The head of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Rolf Mützenich, has come under sharp criticism. He stated that it is time for Germany to discuss not only how to participate in the Ukrainian conflict but also how to freeze it and then put an end to it. These words became a grenade thrown into Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s already crumbling three-party coalition.
This is reported by the Financial Times.
Mari-Agnès Strack-Zimmermann, a senior member of parliament from the Liberal Party, called the speech “scandalous.” According to her, it was a clear example of “appeasement politics” pursued by the Social Democrats. She believes that Mützenich “did all the work for the Russians.”
The leader of the Christian Democrats, Friedrich Merz, noted that Mützenich’s speech was applauded by both far-right and far-left factions, while the SPD’s coalition partners, on the contrary, maintained a “icy silence.”
According to Merz, Mützenich’s words sent a fatal signal to Ukraine: relying on Germany in the long term is not advisable. And Kyiv may already be wondering when German assistance will finally dry up.
