The father of the refugee killed in the U.S. was allowed to leave Ukraine so he could say goodbye to her, but only after her funeral

The father of the young Ukrainian woman killed in the U.S., Iryna Zarutska — Stanislav Zarutsky — was eventually allowed to leave Ukraine so that he could say goodbye to his daughter.

This was announced during a briefing by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

He responded to information from the British newspaper Daily Mail that the man, being of conscription age, had not been allowed to travel to the U.S. for his daughter’s funeral.

However, according to his words, Zarutsky was permitted to leave only recently — already after the funeral and media publications.

Demchenko stated that Zarutsky had not received a refusal at the border and had not previously applied for departure, and that he was assisted in preparing documents to leave on humanitarian grounds.

“Indeed, we saw reports that the father of the murdered Ukrainian woman in America, Iryna Zarutska, was not allowed to leave the country, that he could not go abroad to say goodbye to his daughter. But I can note that all these reports, all those comments that were spread across various information resources, including with reference to foreign media, do not correspond to reality, they are absurd… I can now state that he nevertheless left Ukraine on humanitarian grounds, he is receiving consular assistance. And, in fact, he has already arrived in the United States of America, where he will be able to say goodbye to his daughter,” Demchenko said.

The spokesperson of the Border Guard Service expressed condolences to the family and called on the media to use only verified information.

It should be recalled that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi promised to seek the harshest possible sentence for Zarutska’s killer.

Her murderer, 34-year-old Black man Dekarlos Brown, suffers from schizophrenia. He stated that he slashed Iryna with a knife because she was reading his thoughts.
