The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine acknowledged fighting in the Sumy direction

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has officially announced the emergence of a new frontline in the Sumy region as a result of advances by the Russian Armed Forces.

The statement was published on the General Staff’s official Telegram channel.

“Starting from June 16, 2025, the General Staff of the AFU will include updates in its daily briefings on a new combat zone — the northern Slobozhanske direction,” the announcement reads.

The AFU explained the addition of this new direction as a result of the enemy’s increased activity along the Sumy region’s border area. The previous Kharkiv direction will now be referred to in official reports as the southern Slobozhanske direction.

Earlier, a Russian assault soldier described the situation for Ukrainian forces on the Sumy front by saying: “We broke them.” He added that things are currently “going very well” for the Russian army.
