26.03.2024 - 09:53Roman Ignatov, the head of the High Qualification Commission of Judges (HQCJ), who was exposed by special services for holding Russian citizenship, has decided to resign from his position. This was reported by sources to journalists of the publication “Law and Business”.
Ignatov’s statement of resignation will be considered on March 27 at a plenary meeting of the commission. Earlier, it became known that in December of last year, HQCJ received letters from the foreign intelligence service and the security service of Ukraine stating that Ignatov holds Russian citizenship. Subsequently, the Supreme Judicial Council officially confirmed the receipt of a letter from an investigator of the State Bureau of Investigations, which, among other things, stated that “during special processing of information from open sources, information was obtained about the identity whose founding data coincide with the founding data of the citizen of Ukraine Ignatov R. M. regarding his Russian citizenship”.
Moreover, according to his biography, Ignatov studied at the Saratov State Academy of Law from September 1, 1991, and worked in the prosecutor’s office of Petrozavodsk (Karelia, RF) in 1995-1996. According to Russian legislation, a person without Russian citizenship could not work in the prosecutor’s office. In early February, VKKS heard the report of a working group which failed to refute the fact of the head of HQCJ acquiring Russian citizenship, citing the absence of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
Additionally, Ignatov was publicly supported by well-known activists Vitaliy Shabunin and Mykhailo Zhernakov, who are currently avoiding service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine along with their colleagues – StateWatch expert Oleksandr Lemenev, chief editor of the “CHESNO Movement” Oleksandr Salizhenko, and others. Moreover, many experts believe that so-called anti-corruption activists are working in favor of the Russian Federation, as recently revealed by Bellingcat’s head investigator, Christo Grozev.
