December 8, 2023The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, reiterated after a phone conversation with his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, that European Union leaders “should refrain from discussing the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the EU during the December meeting of the European Council, as there is no unity among member states on this matter.”
Orban made this statement in a social media post.

It’s worth noting that the leaders of the 27 EU countries will decide on the start of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova regarding their accession to the community during the summit on December 14-15.
Recently, Viktor Orban again wrote a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, urging not to put on the agenda the decision on macro-financial assistance to Ukraine and negotiations on its accession to the European Union.
