This was stated by Oleksandr Hladun, deputy director of the Institute of Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, during the national telethon.
According to the expert, around six million people have left Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“Ukraine is now seeing the lowest number of births in almost 250 years. In 2050, Ukraine’s population will be 23–25 million if the war ends in the coming years,” Hladun added.
As a reminder, according to other estimates, the population of Ukraine living in the government-controlled territory is currently about 20 million people.
Earlier, the head of the Rating sociological group said that one in six Ukrainians would like to leave the country as soon as possible.
At the same time, a member of the Servant of the People party said that Ukraine has enough population to keep fighting for many more years.
