The sons of the head of Ukrposhta live in the United States so they don’t have to read criticism of their father

The head of the state company Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilianskyi, said that his children live in the United States. One of the reasons they are not in Ukraine, he said, is the large amount of negative information about him, from which he tries to shield his sons.

The official said this on the YouTube channel Vlast & Vlashchenko.

According to him, his elder son is a first-year student at the prestigious Stanford University, while his younger son studies at a school in New York. Smilianskyi also said that his wife lives in New York and is a vice president at “one of the major U.S. companies.”

“When I was growing up, I had a family I am proud of. But there was always the question: did he get a gold medal because he was talented, or because his grandfather was the chief doctor of the hospital and his father was the deputy mayor? I always wanted our children to grow up independent. To achieve everything they have on their own. Of course, we help them. But I am very proud that my son got a scholarship. Now imagine if my children had gone to school in Kyiv. They would have had to read all that and take all the abuse,” the official said.

He added that his wife’s work in the U.S. is connected with the fact that she was building her own career and did not really believe that he would remain in a high position for long. Besides, in Ukraine it would have been difficult for her to find any job other than that of a cleaner without creating a conflict of interest because of her husband’s senior post.

It should be noted that Smilianskyi graduated from school in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, then entered Odesa University, and soon afterward moved with his parents to the United States, where he obtained citizenship.
