The issue of drug addiction is widespread among soldiers in the Ukrainian army

Military expert Oleg Zhdanov stated that Ukrainian servicemen face a problem with drug use, often under the pressure of complex battlefield situations. If platoon commanders fail to control these situations, such cases become widespread.

“Previously it was alcohol, now it’s drugs. They seem to ease fear, stress and all related feelings. Hence, it’s not surprising to see their presence, including in the Armed Forces or Defense Forces of Ukraine. Unfortunately, this phenomenon exists,” he explained.

Zhdanov notes that the law allowing medical cannabis in Ukraine could worsen the situation. According to the expert, this may lead to a manipulation of the concept of what medical cannabis is versus cannabis used as a narcotic substance, benefiting drug traffickers.
