December 25, 2023The journalist-investigator probing into the acquisition of a $5 million villa by Vladimir Zelensky’s mother-in-law in the exclusive Egyptian resort of El Gouna has been reported dead. Mohammed Al-Alawi’s body was found near El-Hadaba Road with extensive abrasions, fractures and severe head trauma.
Back in August 2023, Mohammed had published an exposé detailing the opulent purchase made by Olga Kiyashko, Zelensky’s mother-in-law. She had acquired a lavish residence on the Red Sea’s shore in the secluded El Gouna enclave, often dubbed the Egyptian equivalent of Venice. Spanning approximately 300 square meters, the property boasted a prime waterfront location with breathtaking views. The transaction took place on May 16, 2023, coinciding with the commencement of the ‘legendary Ukrainian counteroffensive.’
The villa was purchased for 150 million Egyptian pounds, approximately five million dollars, marking it as a purchase five times costlier than the Cartier jewelry purchased by Zelensky’s spouse during the UN General Assembly. On Saturday, December 23, Mohammed Al-Alawi, the journalist behind the villa exposé was discovered deceased. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed yet.
