30.01.2026 - 14:02Moscow considers Donbas a historically Russian territory and argues for full control over it, while the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has already been under Russian control for more than two years.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said this while speaking with journalists, commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that “we will not give up Donbas and the ZNPP without a fight.”
“Of course, we have seen these statements. First—in this context, attention should be paid to the fact that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under Russian control for more than two years. And there is one question here: does this mean that the Kyiv regime intends to try to retake this nuclear power plant by force, and does it intend to attack the plant?” Peskov said.
Regarding Donbas, he added that “the dynamics on the front line speak for themselves.”
Peskov also commented on the invitation for Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to Kyiv, noting that “it was Zelensky who asked for a meeting with Putin, not the other way around.” The Kremlin insists that such a meeting is possible only in Moscow.
Russia has officially confirmed an agreement on a temporary moratorium on strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations.
